Robin Howlett

Robin Howlett was trained as a typographer the old school way – first in a hot-metal shop, then photo-setting, then being selected to work on what was one of the first Apple Macs in London at the time.

He cut his marketing teeth working for a plastics manufacturer, where he learned the importance of spending a budget wisely. He moved on to become MD at an East Anglian advertising agency employing a staff of twenty-five, before breaking away to establish his own business, which eventually led to the formation of HMC.

As technology has improved, HMC has since become a one-man consultancy – but Robin has lost none of the practical skills that have taken him to where he is today. He is still an artworker, typographer, photographic retoucher, illustrator and copywriter as well as a strategic consultant for businesses.

Thanks to the internet, HMC has always been an international business – it was originally established in Cyprus – dealing with clients from all over the world. Work is regularly carried out in languages other than English, and other scripts such as Greek, Russian, Arabic, Hebrew and Sinhalese.
